Gingerbread

In December Lyndie bought a gingerbread house kit for Yosi, and we spent a Saturday afternoon at the dining room table assembling it. Initially the idea of a using a prefab kit sounded like the death of imagination to me, but it quickly became apparent that it was the best option for working with a three year old on a project like this. Next year we might get more creative and use our own plans and materials, but this was a good first experience for Yosi. She ate more of the candy than she helped attach of course, but this mostly annoyed us only because the kit candy was so cheap and awful that we didn’t feel like doing the same thing ourselves.

Our completed project was improved by adding shaved coconut to make snow.

Here's Lyndie flipping you off while she works.

You can check out some amazing gingerbread houses here, but the awesomest design that the average person could actually pull off? This amazing replica of Serenity from Firefly. Now why didn’t I think of that?

Finished product looks great! I haven’t made one in years. I think there were a few times that I might have welcomed a kit. But graham crackers ‘glued’ to a milk carton worked…

  2. We tried all from scratch, and have gone back to kit, with the addition of some extra icing, and better candies and embellishments.
This year my older than should be still doing this girls :) , made a crime scene inspired by Criminal Minds.
